OPP measure up fishy business in Bloomfield

“Bloomfield Childrens Fishing” – 9th May 2008

“Thanks Dad”

For a fish living in Bloomfields large pond, Saturday 9th May was a “reel treat” with hundreds of big fat juicy worms being dangled into the water by the 179 participant’s at the annual children’s fishing competition, organized by the Bloomfield Hallowell Recreation Committee. Worms from the garden, the muck heap, even 54 dozen provided at cost by the  ”Reel Thing fishing store in Wellington” The really smelly ones are the best” I was told by one participant!

Under warm spring skies, the banks of the pond were soon lined with families intent on having lots of fun, and it wasn’t long before the first fish were being Caught. This year the OPP were on hand to measure fish and ensure fair play in the prize categories. And they were certainly kept busy with cries of “we’ve caught one,” and “here is another” coming from all over the park.

“Wow, Look at this,” as a big Bass was unhooked from the line and placed back into the pond, a certain contender for the biggest fish until right at the far end Page Marshall caught a rather angry looking 23″ pike.

But the day wasn’t all about the prizes, although thanks to the sponsors,  Bob Izumi organization, Canadian Tire and MacDonalds no-one went away empty handed. It was learning some secret fishing tips from Grandad, quietly watching a float bobbing about while snuggling into mum, or having dad help reel in another shiny fish. With such a successful day enjoyed by so many, and the fish swimming back in the pond, I think “County” worms will go into hiding this this time next year”
